In 1988 I was in my early 40's. I woke up one morning, and for the first time in my life decided there was no point in going to work. For years I'd been working 14 hour days. Sure, I was on big money and we owned the house and our two cars.
But what was the point? Where was another twenty years of this going to get me? The harder and longer I worked, the harder and longer I'd be expected to work. There had to be moreto life.
Kim, my wife, knew something was nagging at me. So when I told her how I felt, it wasn't much of a surprise. She said to me, rather impatiently I thought at the time, something like, "Your trouble is you think you've got to do everything yourself!"
I recollect thinking, "Not going to get too much sympathy this morning, are we, Leigh?"; and, in an equally gentle tone saying something like, "Well, who the blazes is going to do it all if I don't?"
About a year before, Kim had committed her life to Jesus. She had an answer alright! She told me Jesus was there to help out. And, what's more, He wanted to. All I had to do was pray and ask him to come into the picture.
I couldn't for the life of me work out why he'd be wanting to help me. After all, I'd hardly ever given him a thought!
But the Bible does say, in Ecclesiates 3:11, that God has ... Set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.
Maybe I couldn't work out why Jesus would be wanting to help me. "But," I thought, "I'm desperate ... I'll try anything ...even that."
So I prayed. I asked for Jesus' help. I asked Jesus into my picture. And ever since praying that prayer back in 1988 I've been aware that Jesus has been in my picture.
However, it was a few weeks later before I was led to the decision that I wanted Jesus not just in the picture, but in charge.
Has it made any difference? Well, here are some facts:
Now, if that seems like a lot of negatives, here are some more facts:
How about you? Are you an active and positive part of a relationship
with God? You can be you know, and it's great! Ask me more about it sometime!
